SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The Pierro Gallery presents “tech (in)dependent,” an art exhibition exploring people’s personal attachment to devices and the almost universal dependency on them from the perspective of five contemporary artists. Each of the artists explores human concerns that have evolved through the ubiquity of social media, mapping and surveillance and its effect on citizenship and technology in the digital age. The exhibition will be at the Pierro Gallery, 5 Mead St. in South Orange, from April 19 through May 19. An opening reception will be Thursday, April 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Exhibiting artists are A.J. Bocchino, Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern, Rachel Knoll, Lauren McCarthy and Jeremiah Teipen; the exhibit is curated by Emily Brostek and Claudia S. Preza.

There will be a free family program, “Emoji-ze your Surroundings,” featuring artist Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern on Saturday, April 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.
