Authorities investigate fatal shooting in Irvington

IRVINGTON, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Irvington Public Safety Director Tracy Bowers announced March 20 that authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old male in Irvington.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on March 20, Irvington police officers responded to the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue on reports of a shooting. Arriving units located the victim, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 3:27 p.m. The victim has been identified as Marquise Jenkins, 18, of Irvington, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

This incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Irvington Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Prosecutor’s Tips Line at 877-847-7432.
