NEWARK, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced May 10 that authorities are investigating a shooting homicide in Newark.
At approximately 1:45 a.m. on May 10, Newark police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 160 Mt. Prospect Ave. Arriving units located an unresponsive male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:07 a.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit. The victim has been identified as Malik Carson, 27, of Newark.
This incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Prosecutor’s Tips Line at 877-847-7432.
