GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The ninth annual Glen Ridge Eco-Fair, on Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will focus on how to live a more active, healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle. Featured will be electric cars, bees and butterflies, home brewing, essential oils, organic soaps, free-trade products, organic fruits and vegetables, as well as expert advice for planting your own vegetable garden, creating a rain garden and making your own compost.
Animals from the Turtle Back Zoo will be on site, as will animals for adoption! In addition, demonstrations will include a wide-range of simple to substantial “green,” yet money saving, products, along with activities for children, such as making birdhouses and picture frames from scrap wood. A selection of herbs and berry plants, along with terrariums games, will be available for purchase. There will also be a raffle table offering prizes.
An event for pre-schoolers will be held on the lawn of the GR Congregational Church, honoring the 60th anniversary of the Pilgrim Nursery School. It will feature a bounce house, a balloon artist, arts and crafts and refreshments for the pre-K set and their guests.
As in past years, Eco Fair is held in conjunction with the Arts Festival, making food concessions and live entertainment a vibrant part of the day’s festivities.
The 38th annual Glen Ridge Arts Festival is also Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Ridgewood Avenue in Glen Ridge. Artists and craftspeople will display their work. Many area musicians will also be performing during the combined events.
At the festival and fair there will be many children’s activities. Building projects for kids will be available and other groups will present craft activities. Vendors will attend with children’s items, including marionettes, doll clothes and children’s accessories. Show hours are Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine.
