HNA hosts Black History Month poetry reading

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Hilton Neighborhood Association held its annual Black History Month reading at the DeHart Community Center on Feb. 21. Maplewood residents were invited to read poetry written by African-Americans. Members of the public took turns reading work aloud, discussing the writers and learning about the history of the poetry.

Featured poets included: Langston Hughes, Lucille Clifton, Naomi Long Madgett, Allison Joseph, Marilyn Nelson, Countee Cullen, Waring Cuney, Elizabeth Alexander, DJ Renegade, Robert Hayden, Mari Evans, Kwame Alexander, Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou.
