BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield Chorale seeks singers of all levels and backgrounds, all ages, non-residents and residents alike.
The chorale resumes its spring season with rehearsals held on Tuesdays, at 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Bloomfield Civic Center, second floor, 84 Broad St.
Comprised of people from Bloomfield and the Essex County area, the group sings music from classical and popular genres and performs several concerts each year that include selections from international folk music, Americana, classical, pop standards, Christmas music and show tunes, under the direction of Ruth Hsu. Members enjoy the pleasures of choral music while learning and practicing in an informal atmosphere. Previous choral experience is helpful, but not required. The Bloomfield Chorale, originally known as the Bloomfield Civic Chorus, was organized in 1933 and grew to a membership of 125. For more than 70 years the group flourished and presented many ambitious programs and was led by a series of very able conductors. However, lifestyles changed and the membership dwindled, forcing the group to finally disband, and it remained defunct for four years.
In 2008, under the auspices of the Bloomfield Federation of Music, the group was re-established in the community. Now known as the Bloomfield Chorale, under the artistic direction of Hsu, the group is celebrating its eighth season.
The chorale’s group of volunteer singers from Bloomfield and surrounding areas perform a wide variety of music in annual concerts. Visit the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/bloomfieldchorale or email [email protected] for more info.
Do you have to read music.I have been in 3 choral groups and also have done musicals with the Hoffman La Roche players and music is no problem for me.The issue is,I don’t know how to read it but but follow it with no problem.
