IRVINGTON, NJ — Municipal Council President Charnette Frederic will again sponsor a Haitian Independence Day event Jan 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Grove Street.
“You are cordially invited to attend our annual celebration of the 212th Haitian Independence Day,” Frederic said in an email blast sent on Monday, Dec. 21. “The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, located at 537 Grove St. Every year, the Haitian-American community is looking forward to celebrate an important day together.”
Frederic said the Haitian-American community invites all Americans to come and celebrate freedom, peace and love on New Year’s Day. “The story of Haitian independence is one of courage, unity, hope and resilience,” she said. “The victory of Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Henri Christophe and others was an achievement by all Haitians and it became a source of inspiration in the Americas and around the world.
