WEST ORANGE, NJ — Liberty Middle School students had the opportunity to meet author, photographer and philanthropist Kate T. Parker on May 2.
Parker is the author and photographer of two books, “Strong is the New Pretty” and “The Heart of a Boy.” She met with approximately 100 students, delivering the message: “It’s OK to be who you are.”
“Watchung Booksellers community outreach program, in conjunction with Workman Publishing, sponsored our event,” LMS library media specialist Lisa Touzeau said. “Her message of we all have gifts and each one of us should celebrate those gifts resonated with all of the students involved.”
In addition to the large group session, Parker also met with a smaller group who had the opportunity to ask in-depth questions.
“The message I particularly liked in this small group was that she showed students that in order to be successful creatively, she needed to use skill sets that included math, English, interpersonal skills and self discipline,” Touzeau said.
