Bloomfield HS baseball team tops Newark Academy to move to 3-2

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Jalen Spence had two hits and an RBI and fellow senior Kyle Tice drove in two runs to lead the Bloomfield High School varsity baseball team to a 9-4 win at Newark Academy on April 8. BHS improved to a 3-2 record.

In earlier action, senior Guillermo Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Spence and Tice each had an RBI in the 17-7 home loss to Nutley on April 3. Bloomfield led 6-2 but Nutley rallied for 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 12-6 lead.

The Bengals bounced back with a 6-3 win over Lyndhurst on Saturday, April 6 in Lyndhurst. Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored; senior Rob Reboa drove in three runs, and junior Vinny Torrisi was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Senior Kyle DiMatteo also had an RBI. Senior Darmany Rivas struck out seven over 6 ⅔ innings for the win.
