GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School girls lacrosse team received the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state tournament and will host No. 7 seed Verona in the quarterfinals May 16 at Watsessing Park. The winner will face the winner of No. 6 Morristown-Beard and No. 3 Cedar Grove in the semifinals May 20. The final is May 23. Oak Knoll is the top seed.
The Ridgers lost to Oak Knoll in the North 2, Group 1 finals in each of the past two seasons.
GRHS defeated Immaculate Heart Academy, 11-9, May 10 at Watsessing Park to improve to 14-2 on the season.
Gretchen Gilmore had eight goals; Madison Grady and Claire McMahon each had a goal and three assists; and Jenny Lisovicz had a goal.
In their previous game, the Ridgers lost to Ridgewood, 14-6, May 8 at Watsessing Park. The loss ended the Ridgers’ 13-game winning streak. McMahon had three goals and one assist; and Gilmore, Grady and Lisovicz each scored a goal.
To start the week, the Ridgers traveled to Mountain Lakes and won, 9-7, May 6. Grady had three goals and one assist; Gilmore had two goals and one assist; McMahon had a goal and two assists; and Lisovicz and Campbell Moriarty each had a goal. Lily Kinley made five saves.
GRHS won the Essex County Tournament title for the fourth straight season with a 12-9 win over Montclair Kimberley Academy May 4 at West Essex in North Caldwell.
