Irvington HS alum Ramon Wright enjoys dominant season for Rowan University men’s basketball team

Senior forward named All-NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, leads Profs to conference tourney title

IRVINGTON, NJ – Irvington High School 2014 graduate Ramon Wright had a fine senior season for the Rowan University men’s basketball team this past season.

Wright, a 6-7, 188-pound forward, earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men’s Basketball All-Conference second team honors. Wright was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

“Ramon has had an incredible season for us,” Rowan head coach Joe Crispin stated following the NJAC awards announcement.  “He impacts the game in so many ways both defensively and offensively with his length, skill-set and understanding of the game. He is an unselfish player who, at the end of the day, consistently helps us win.”

It is the third All-Conference honor for Wright.

Wright started all 29 games for the Profs, averaging 12.0 points per game, third best on the team. He led the team in both rebounding at 6.2 rebounds a game and blocked shots at 52. Wright produced 72 assists and 63 steals. He shot 54.8 percent from the floor.

Wright was selected to the All-Atlantic Region Third Team.

Wright scored 15 points to help the Profs defeat New Jersey City University, 80-77, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.

The Profs competed in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Profs defeated Emerson College, 96-79 in the first round. In the second round, Wright had 15 points, but Rowan lost to Nichols College, 87-76, to end its season with a stellar 22-7 record.

Rowan senior guard Nick DePersia was named Second Team All-Atlantic Region and Crispin was chosen as the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. DePersia also earned  All-NJAC first team honors. Rowan senior guard Rob DePersia was named All-NJAC honorable mention.
