West Orange HS girls’ soccer team wins in state tournament first round

WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange High School varsity girls’ soccer team came back from its heartbreaking loss to Montclair Kimberly Academy in the Essex County Tournament semifinals to shut out Bergen County Tech, 5-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on Oct. 30 at home.

Natalie Nevins scored two goals, while Kaitlyn Charles, Kaylese Gist and Emma Mitchell each had a goal. Samantha Herbert had two saves while Bergen Tech goalie Angelina Carrion had five.

Fifth-seeded West Orange, which remained unbeaten at 13-0-4, will visit fourth-seeded Livingston in the quarterfinals on Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.

NOTE: The PK loss is viewed as a tie.
