WEST ORANGE, NJ – West Orange High School track and field standouts Abigail Vital and Isyss Covin earned individual medals, and the girls 4×100-meter relay team also took home a medal at the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions at Northern Burlington HS in Columbus on June 8.
Vital, a junior, finished in fourth place in the girls 100-meter hurdles finals in a season-best and school-record 14.08.
Covin, a sophomore, took fifth place in the girls 200-meter dash finals in a season-best 24.51.
The girls 4×100-meter relay team finished in fifth place in 47.93, which is the second fastest in school history behind its record set at the sectionals.
The top eight finishers in each event earned medals.
Covin also took 11th place in the 100-meter dash preliminares in 12.18.
The other WOHS competitors at the meet gave good efforts.
Andree Celestin, a junior, took 19th place in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries in a season-best 14.94.
In the discus finals, Olivia Prescott, a freshman, finished in 13th place in a season-best throw of 123 feet-10 inches, while Karen Odoemene, a junior, took 26th place at 112-3.
Denae Hill, a junior, placed 21st in the girls shot put finals at 35-9.
On the boys’ side, the 4×800-meter relay team was the lone WOHS competitors. The unit finished in 12th place in the finals in 8:07.98.
Seton Hall Prep had two competitors. Kennith Washington, a senior, took 14th place in the triple jump finals at 44-7 ¾. Caseem Akinruli-Dewitt, a senior, took 17th place n the shot put at 51-3 ⅕.
