SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — More than 650 runners and walkers of all ages are expected to participate in the 16th annual Achieve Foundation’s 2018 Newstead 5K Race on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Race time is 9 a.m., beginning at the South Mountain School Annex, 112 Glenview Road in South Orange. Presenting sponsor D&I Fitness will once again lead runners in fun and dynamic warm-up exercises prior to the race start. The race route is a rolling 5K, or 3.1-mile, course in the quiet residential Newstead neighborhood alongside South Mountain Reservation.

The regional race raises more than $25,000 annually to underwrite Achieve programs that inspire educators to bring innovative practices to the classroom in ways that impact students in all South Orange and Maplewood public schools, including the signature volunteer tutor program, teacher grants, science, technology, engineering, arts and math education, and more.

Sponsorships are available at several levels for local businesses, corporations and families. Sponsors are asked to pledge their support for the race by Aug. 1.

The Newstead 5K course features chip timing by Compuscore and includes a 2-mile walk and a half-mile Fun Run for children. A large team of volunteers sees that the event runs smoothly.
