CEDAR GROVE, NJ – Art workshops, music, demonstrations and information will all be present at the first Arts Accessible Festival on Friday, Oct. 14, at Essex Junior Academy in Cedar Grove. Arts Unbound, a visual arts organization based in the Valley Arts District and serving people with disabilities and seniors, has partnered with the school to host a festival celebrating inclusion and the arts. The festival unites senior centers, special education schools, support coordinators, families and everyone interested in the arts. The festival features age-appropriate workshops and all activities are free, wheelchair accessible and open to the public.
The Arts Accessible Festival will take place Friday, Oct. 14, at Essex Junior Academy, 520 Pompton Ave. in Cedar Grove, from 10 am to 1 pm.
The purpose of the festival is to highlight the benefits of visual arts to the special needs community, particularly in social and functional development, skill development and self-confidence.
The festival will include visual art workshops, including painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, digital media and jewelry design, led by Arts Unbound’s professional teaching artists and local guest artists. Participants will be led by Newark muralists to create a mural spotlighting inclusion. Sanar Wellness Institute will be providing therapeutic exercises and support for individuals with disabilities and their families and caretakers. Music will be provided by DJs Mojito Jones and M. Projekt.
