Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra to open new season

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Music director Israel Herman will open the Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra’s 86th season on Sunday, November 18, at 3 p.m. with a program including Carl Maria von Weber’s “Overture to Oberon”; “Violin Concerto No. 1,” by Max Bruch; and “Beethoven Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 (Pastoral).” The concert will be held at the Bloomfield Middle School Auditorium, 60 Huck Road in Bloomfield.

The Bruch violin concerto will feature accomplished violinist Susan Heerema, a New Jersey resident who is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and who has performed as violin soloist since age 9 and concertmaster since age 11 with a long list of distinguished orchestras. She has traveled internationally and has played under the baton of Yehudi Menuhin, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Mstislav Rostropovich. She has appeared on a variety of television shows with David Letterman and Conan O’Brien, and has recorded on labels with Doc Severinsen, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett. She has performed all the major violin concertos.
