MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The second Maplewood South Orange Book Festival was a huge success, drawing hundreds of residents for a variety of events on June 8 and 9.
The festival began Friday, June 8, with a benefit evening with best-selling author David Baldacci, an event that raised funds for the South Orange and Maplewood public libraries.
Most events occurred Saturday, June 9, with 16 events crammed into an action-packed seven hours in Maplewood, as well as a bustling children’s area that included children’s books, face painting, arts and crafts, and ice cream.
The most popular events of the day, which were held in The Woodland’s Great Hall, included legendary first baseman Keith Hernandez discussing his memoir, “I’m Keith Hernandez,” with broadcast journalist Budd Mishkin; best-selling novelist and journalist Anna Quindlen in conversation with best-selling author Jean Hanff Korelitz; and award-winning author Tayari Jones discussing her latest novel, “An American Marriage,” with book editor Leigh Haber.
