WEST ORANGE, NJ — JCC MetroWest presents “Creativity and Continuity: A Celebration of 140 Years of JCC Arts Programming” in the Gaelen Gallery East at the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, Ross Family Campus, 760 Northfield Ave., West Orange. The exhibit will be on view Nov. 11 through Dec. 28. A reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. and will coincide with the showing of the film “Bye Bye Germany,” which is an “Extra! Event” for the NJ Jewish Film Festival.

“Creativity and Continuity: A Celebration of 140 Years of JCC Arts Programming” highlights many of the arts and cultural programs celebrated at the JCC over the years. Throughout its history, both at its original location on High Street in Newark, and for the past 50 years in West Orange, the JCC and its members and donors have always been committed to support of the arts, as arts and culture have always played an important role in community life centered at the JCC.

Programming during the 140-year history of the JCC included a chamber music series, a resident orchestra, children’s and adult theater performances, a poetry series, a book festival, a speakers series, the NJ Jewish Film Festival, and ongoing art exhibits. In addition, the JCC’s Gaelen Center for the Arts currently maintains a School of the Arts with classes for both adults and children, an extensive children’s theater program, a variety of performances and films, and an active series of art exhibits in the Gaelen Galleries East and West.

This November and December, painter Mary Cosh’s lively paintings of teenagers and children fill the walls of the Arts/Theater Lobby. Her work expresses a colorful contemporary sensibility and empathy with her subjects. Janet Resnick’s remarkable dreidel collection continues to be displayed in the Steiner Court Showcases.

The Gaelen Gallery East is open during regular JCC hours: Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact Lisa Suss at 973-530-3413 or [email protected].
