ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. invites the public to participate in the 2018 Essex County Parks Photography Contest. Photographers of all ages and abilities may submit photos highlighting the Essex County Parks System. The contest is free and the deadline to submit entries is Wednesday, Sept. 12.
“We are inviting the public to grab their cameras and capture the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of our historic parks system,” DiVincenzo said.
The contest is sponsored by the Essex County Environmental Center. Anyone with a camera is encouraged to participate. Entries will be judged in two categories: youth for ages 17 years and younger, and adult for ages 18 and older. Color and black-and-white photographs will be judged together.
All photographs should be taken within the boundaries of the Essex County Parks System and must have been taken sometime during the past year. Each photographer may submit two entries. The entry should include an 8-by-10-inch copy of the photograph with the photographer’s name, address, phone number, category entered, date and location where the photo was taken listed on the back of the photo. A digital copy of the photograph should also be submitted [email protected] if it was taken in a digital format. Photographs should not be framed or matted.
Any entries that include an individual must be accompanied by a release statement signed by the person featured in the photograph or their guardian if they are a minor. The release statement will be provided by the Essex County Environmental Center.
Judging will be done by a group of professionals based on creativity, technical superiority, composition and the photograph’s depiction of the uniqueness of the Essex County Parks System.
The deadline to enter is Wednesday, Sept. 12. Entries may be mailed or hand-delivered to the Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Ave., Roseland, NJ 07068. All entries will become the property of the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and may be used in future publications, promotional materials or displays.
All photographs will be on display at the Essex County Environmental Center from Monday, Oct. 1, to Wednesday, Oct. 31. For more information, contact the Essex County Environmental Center at 973-228-8776 or visit www.essexcountynj.org for complete rules.
