Every child needs a hero – abused children need superheroes

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Join your neighbors, community, family and friends at the third annual New Jersey Children’s Alliance Heroes for Children 5K Family Fun Run/Walk at the South Mountain Recreation Complex Clipper Pavilion in West Orange on Saturday, Oct. 1. Be a superhero for the children of New Jersey at this fun, family-friendly charity event to promote public awareness about child abuse issues and the important services provided by local children’s advocacy centers and multidisciplinary teams. Participants with proof of registration will receive reduced admission to the Turtle Back Zoo, MiniGOLF Safari and Codey Arena on the day of the event.

“Everyone is welcome to walk or run on Oct. 1,” NJCA Board President Pete Boser said in a release. “Please join us at the NJCA Heroes for Children 5K and Family Fun Run/Walk to support those who investigate abuse, help children heal from abuse and hold offenders accountable. We are asking the people of New Jersey to come out and help us help child abuse victims become survivors.”

Through registration fees and sponsorships of this event, NJCA raises awareness and funds to support county-based children’s advocacy centers and multidisciplinary teams throughout the state. These centers are child-friendly places that help abused children heal by providing comprehensive and coordinated responses to reports of child abuse. The goal is to make sure every county in the state has an accredited children’s advocacy center because currently only nine of the 21 counties in New Jersey have one.
