‘In the Heights’ to premiere at West Orange High School

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Broadway smash, “In the Heights,” will be performed at West Orange High School from April 12 through 15. The show won the 2008 Tony for Best Musical.

Miranda’s book and lyrics tell the stories of residents “In the Heights,” an affectionate term for the Washington Heights area of Manhattan that many Latinos call home. Set over three days, the ups and downs of its residents are told in song and dance. The connecting thread of the musical is De La Vega Bodega and its owner, Usnavi. Latin rhythms and hip-hop lyrics tell a story of having dreams while celebrating your roots.

Performances will be held on April 12, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and April 15 at 2 p.m. in the West Orange High School Auditorium, 51 Conforti Ave., located on the Pleasant Valley Way side of the building. A special senior citizen performance will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. and is free to seniors.
