WEST ORANGE, NJ — On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled of MetroWest, a not-for-profit social service provider based in West Orange, hosted a fundraising gala and art exhibit opening, “Doorways to Infinite Possibility.” At this special event, Livingston Deputy Mayor Alfred Anthony was honored for his contributions on behalf of people with special needs and their families in Livingston.

Anthony was instrumental in garnering support for employing someone full time to coordinate the township’s effort to include people with special needs as part of the fabric of what Livingston offers its citizens.

The event also honored Barry R. Mandelbaum, of Mandelbaum Salsburg P.C., with the Outstanding Advocate and Humanitarian Award.

To continue supporting its talented artists, JSDD invites the public to experience its interactive art exhibit hosted at the Gaelen Gallery East at the JCC in West Orange, 760 Northfield Ave., which will be open to the public through Dec. 30. The building is open to the public weekdays; to schedule a visit for a group, contact gallery manager Lisa Suss at 973-530-3413 or lsuss@jccmetrowest.org.

“Doorways to Infinite Possibility” is a collaborative multimedia exhibition reflecting literal and figurative expressions of movement from one place to another. JSDD WAE Center artists worked alongside lead artists Teela Banker, Madison Berry, Ellen Hanauer, Claude Larson, Yvette Lucas, Deniz Olcay, Keely McCool, Mansa Mussa, Heidi Sussman and Amy Tingle to explore and create work that delves into the notion of home, movement, possibility and infinity, in which these words and concepts weave together in an artist’s mind.

“The WAE Center is a wonderful manifestation of what we do here at JSDD,” Executive Director Linda Press said. “The vibrant talents of our individual members are once again on display for the community to appreciate, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the support we receive to enable these programs.”
