SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner helped launch the band’s latest album with a track-by-track introduction of all the songs on WSOU 89.5 FM the day the album was released. On Friday, March 9, and continuing until each song in the album had been played, Faulkner introduced his band’s new album, “Firepower,” on WSOU. This track-by-track introspective was exclusive to the student-run loud rock station at Seton Hall University.
“It’s a more energetic album. It’s got more fire in it,” Faulkner told WSOU music director Dylan Gordeuk in a recent interview. “It still has that classic Judas Priest quality.”
Formed in England in 1969, Judas Priest is considered by many as critical to the rise and success of the heavy metal genre. “Firepower” is the band’s 19th studio album and is now available. WSOU’s “track-by-track” feature will continue through Thursday, March 15.
“There are few classic heavy metal acts that have the sonic variety of Judas Priest,” Gordeuk said. “With ‘Firepower,’ listeners will find songs that not only echo the intensity of ‘Painkiller’ but the melody of songs like ‘Bloodstone.’ With a focus on the former, I expect this album to be regarded as a resurgence of Judas Priest. The album breaks from the trend of copy-and-paste classic metal releases by offering fans Priest turned up to 11.”
