WEST ORANGE, NJ — In a pop-up exhibit, local artist Amelia Panico will show “Book Arts and Beyond” at the West Orange Arts Center, 551 Valley Road, through Sunday, Aug. 26. She will hold a book arts demonstration on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
“I am a photographer and a book artist,” Panico said. “My exhibit will be a compilation of handmade books that I have created over the past 35 years. In my art, I utilize photography, book engineering, collage, sculpture, welding, photo transfers, alternative photo processes, paper making, encaustic, painting, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), drawing and sewing. My exhibit will showcase how I incorporate these practices into my book arts. I enjoy and appreciate the art of the book because it naturally represents a beginning and ending to an idea.”
Other events being held by the West Orange Arts Council at the arts center include:
- A WOAC board meeting on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 7 to 8 p.m.;
- Intro to Calligraphy workshops with Patricia Mitrano on Wednesdays, Aug. 15 and 22, from 7 to 9 p.m.; a fee applies each night;
