MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The MAPSO String Ensemble, named for the many Maplewood and South Orange residents who make up the group, will perform a free afternoon concert featuring a program of light classical works at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road in Maplewood, on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. The ensemble will be joined by several talented student musicians from the Columbia High School Virtuosi Ensemble for a portion of the program. This concert is free and open to the public. No reservations required.
“Classical Maplewood” is a loosely defined series of concerts organized through the Maplewood Department of Community Services and Office of Cultural Affairs in partnership with cellist and Maplewood resident Leo Grinhauz. These concerts offer easily accessible, bite-sized classical works to satisfy both the seasoned aficionado and casual listener. To create a uniquely intimate environment, the performers and audience will be seated feet from one another on the main floor of the Woodland’s Great Hall.
The program includes selections from Mozart, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and others. Members of the CHS Virtuosi Ensemble will perform selections from the “Holberg Suite” by Edvard Grieg.
The MAPSO String Ensemble members include Francisco Salazar, Ashley Horne, Claudia Schaer and Gabriella Rengel-Rohdin on violin; Orlando Wells and Margret Hjaltested on viola; Grinhauz on cello; and Richard Sosinsky on bass.
