WEST ORANGE, NJ — Roosevelt Middle School, located at 36 Gilbert Place in West Orange, will present its spring musical, “Once on This Island Jr.,” from April 27 through 29. Show times are 7 p.m. on April 27 and 28, and 2 p.m. on April 29.
“Once on This Island Jr.” is an original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid.” The catchy Caribbean-flavored score punctuates the emotional tale of Ti Moune, a local peasant girl who rescues the wealthy Daniel and falls in love with him. Once Daniel returns to his people, the gods guide Ti Moune on a journey that will test the strength of her love against prejudice, hatred and even death.
In the RMS production, Patrick McLaughlin directs and choreographs; Tracy Gordon produces; and set and scenery is by Janis Oliver.
