EAST HANOVER, NJ — The South Mountain YMCA launched its 2018 superhero-themed annual campaign Monday, Jan. 22, and the $175,000 goal is already a third of the way to being met.

The South Mountain YMCA kicked off the campaign at the whimsical “Calling All Superheroes” event, which brought together all seven branches of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. South Mountain YMCA Executive Director James Goodger channeled the Y’s mascot from the beloved Memorial Day Duck Race to take on the persona of SUPER-DUCK.

In a short skit in front of 200 attendees at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, the duck mascot was so overwhelmed by the $28,846 donation pledge by staff and $33,670 pledge by the board of managers that he transformed into SUPER-DUCK.

“SUPER-DUCK went forward with hope and determination, knowing that with the power of community support our goal could be reached and ultimately more children and families could be impacted by the power of a Y experience,” Goodger narrated.

“It’s easy to be heroic; we all have a power, the power to help others,” Goodger said. “In today’s environment, it’s tough to raise healthy, thoughtful children, but community support ensures that every child has an equal opportunity. When supporting the Y you are helping all kids to learn, laugh, giggle and grow.”
