SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange will host its seventh annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Flood’s Hill in Meadowland Park off of Mead Street. This public safety fair will include a Kids’ Zone, live music, food, giveaways and the screening of Disney’s “Zootopia.”
Local law enforcement and other emergency responders will be present to answer questions and have a good time with the community they serve. Also, the NorthSTAR Air Medical Helicopter is confirmed for landing this year — a feature that awed many last year.
“This is our seventh year hosting National Night Out and unlike other communities who focus just on police and community relations, South Orange has always welcomed all of our public safety agencies and organizations to participate in this night which is really a big celebration,” village President Sheena Collum told the News-Record. “While I know the kids enjoy the live music, giveaways, inflatables and food, I really encourage parents to take their kids to the various tables and introduce their young ones to our police officers and firefighters. There’s also groups such as our rescue squad, Community Emergency Response Team, Domestic Violence Response Team and Neighborhood Watch Organization that I encourage adults and parents to learn more about and consider becoming a volunteer!”
