South Orange church hosts Gospel-Classical Fusion Concert

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — On Saturday, Dec. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., South Orange-Vailsburg United Methodist Church invites the community to a Gospel-Classical Fusion Concert. Doors open for seating at 5:30 p.m. The concert will be a musical treat offering something for both classical and gospel music enthusiasts. Performances will be by classical pianists professor Richard Alston and Terrence Wilson and singers Elder Steven Grice and Glory Boys of Jersey City.

Alston and Wilson were both trained at Juilliard School of Music in New York City and tour across the United States and abroad. Alston is recognized for bringing to light great contributions to classical music made by composers of African descent. He is well known in the music community for building an associate degree program at Essex County College into a full-pledged performing arts Department of Music. Wilson, a resident of Bloomfield and an active recitalist, is acclaimed as one of the biggest pianistic talents to have emerged in the United States in the last 25 years. He appears in concert and as a soloist with many symphony orchestras here and abroad. Elder Steven Grice is a local vocalist often performing with Piano Man Richardson. He has a radio show on WBLJ Radio.com and is program director at Blessed Way Radio. Glory Boys of Jersey City, an all-male quartet, sings gospel music.
