WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Arts Council’s July programs at the West Orange Arts Center Gallery and Gift Shop at 551 Valley Road include a pop-up art exhibit and workshops for poets, songwriters, crafters and aspiring calligraphers.
The July pop-up exhibit, which opens to the public on Saturday, July 7, at 2 p.m., features the work of Sadee Brathwaite, founder of La Leona Arts. Her drawings and paintings explore concepts of beauty, universal archetypes and symbology. James Horton will premiere his most recent series of photographs inspired by New York subway scenes, flowers and nature. Barbara Motley, creator of 4 BMADE Designs, will showcase her fashions. A Meet-the-Artists Reception will be held Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m., immediately preceding a 4 p.m. performance at Luna Stage.
Additional offerings at the arts center this July include:
- Cypher & Sound, a free poet and songwriter workshop with Jody Guest, on Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m.;
- Nuno Felt Scarf Workshop, with Josie Dakers-Brathwaite, on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., charged; and
- Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop, with Patricia Mitrano, on Wednesday, July 25, from 7 to 9 p.m., charged.
