TBA presents author Karen Gooen

LIVINGSTON, NJ — On Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., Temple B’nai Abraham Sisterhood will present speaker Karen Gooen, author of “Searching for Bubbe Fischer: The Path to Mah Jongg Wisdom,” at the temple, 300 E. Northfield Road in Livingston.

Part mahjong manual and part memoir, “Searching for Bubbe Fischer” tells the story of a novice player’s quest for the ultimate mentor. Gooen hoped that, by meeting the mythical Bubbe Fischer and learning all of her tricks, she might become a better mahjong player, and ultimately a tournament champion. What she found along the way was far more enlightening than just how to play the game. The book includes lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced players, as well as information on tournaments, etiquette and how to play a three-person game.

This event is free and open to the community. Registration, which is strongly requested, is online at www.tbanj.org/form-page-sisterhood-speaker-series/ or by contacting tbainfo@tbanj.org.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a meet and greet and mahjong tips. Books and mahjong items will be available for purchase, and Gooen will be signing books. For more information, call 973-994-2290 or visit www.tbanj.org.
