The Bohemian Modigliani

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Amedeo Modigliani, painter and sculptor, was born in Italy but spent most of his tragically short life in France among his avant-garde peers: Severini, Brancusi, Soutine, Gris and Picasso. He is known for portraits and nudes in a contemporary style characterized by the elongation of faces and figures.

Award-winning art history education Janet Mandel will discuss this quintessentially unconventional artist and show many of his ravishing paintings and expressive sculptures at a South Orange-Maplewood Adult School lecture on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room D16 at Columbia High School.

Admission is charged; for more information, call 973-378-7620 or visit www.somadultschool.org.
