WEST ORANGE, NJ — United Presbyterian Church of West Orange, located at 20 Old Indian Road in West Orange, will present A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters,” starring Robert Pape and Cynthia Ross, on Friday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. each day.
“Love Letters,” a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, centers on the lives of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, whose lives intersect via written correspondence over the course of 50 years. The characters share those letters — and at one point a romantic attachment — that keeps the spark of communication going throughout their separate lives that include college, careers, marriage, war, children, divorce, politics and more.
As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny, but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.
General admission tickets are charged at the door. For reservations, call 973-731-1868. All proceeds will benefit the church.
