Village’s interACT presents ‘You Can’t Take It With You’

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — This month, interACT Theatre Productions presents the classic comedy “You Can’t Take It With You,” by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, at the Baird Theatre on Three. The show runs for three weekends with eight performances total, opening Friday, March 9, and closing Saturday, March 24.

“You Can’t Take It With You” is a Pulitzer-Prize winning play that premiered on Broadway in 1936. The story follows Martin “Grandpa” Vanderhoff and his wacky extended family in their home in New York City. It’s a place where pet snakes roam, mail is put in the refrigerator, income tax is looked at as a joke, a tune on the xylophone is accompanied by odd ballet dancing and fireworks go off in the basement. When his granddaughter, Alice, falls for her boss’ son, Tony, who is equally head over heels, Martin’s family is thrilled. But when Tony brings his stiff, upper class parents to the Vanderhoff house for dinner one evening, worlds collide in the most comical way.

Friday and Saturday evening performances start at 7:30 p.m., and the Saturday and Sunday matinees start at 4 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at interactproductions.tix.com until two hours prior to the performance. Tickets may be purchased at the box office in person starting one hour before showtime. Tickets cannot be purchased by phone.
