WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange High School Glee Club’s first-ever “Broadway Night” played to a full house at West Orange High School on Oct. 18 in what is sure to become an annual event.

High school singers performed popular and obscure Broadway showtunes solo and in groups. Many wore T-shirts from music camps or musicals they had appeared in while in middle and high school. Accompaniment by Matt King on piano and Matthew Pacheco on drums was on point.

Glee Club Director John Hellyer donned a Burger King Crown to perform “You’ll Be Back,” from “Hamilton,” and also emceed the evening. District multimedia technician Lauren Grof-Tisza and student Isaiah Adrien joined forces for “Suddenly Seymour.”

Vocals were pitch-perfect and the audience was amazed at the talent of the students. The cheers and applause resonated throughout Tarnoff Cafeteria after every song, prompting Hellyer to note: “We’ll have to rethink this for next year.”
