WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange High School Senior Night on Oct. 12 recognized Class of 2019 fall athletes while the annual District Band Night welcomed students from Edison, Liberty and Roosevelt middle schools to play with the Marching Mountaineers.

Athletes from the football, girls’ volleyball, cheerleading, marching band, cross-country, boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer teams were recognized, along with parents and family members, by Board of Education President Ron Charles, Vice President Mark Robertson, and board members Sandra Mordecai and Ken Alper.

Nearly 200 band students from all three middle schools joined with marching band musicians in the stands to perform during the West Orange v. Passaic Tech game. The annual event allows students in elementary and middle schools to team up and work with marching band students who play the same instruments. The younger musicians get to have the experience of being in a marching band and have a great time doing it. The Marching Mountaineers performed during halftime, to the delight of the middle school students.

Despite the 12-6 loss to Passaic Tech, community pride was evident amid the cheers and tears as seniors were honored and soon-to-be marching band members made their debut in Suriano Stadium.
