NEWARK, NJ — The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting of Avent Holston, 27, of Newark, according to an Oct. 29 press release from the prosecutor’s office.
Just before 7 p.m. on Oct. 28, Newark police responded to a report of a shooting on the 300 block of West Kinney Street. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:41 p.m.
“This is another example of a senseless loss of life due to the prevalence of illegal guns on our streets,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.
The investigation is active and ongoing. So far, no arrests have been made.
