50-year-old man shot to death in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting, according to a Sept. 15 press release from the ECPO.

On Monday, Sept. 14, at approximately 1:24 p.m., Jerry Wayne Works Jr., 50, of Newark, was shot at 36 Brenner St. in Newark. He was transported to Rutgers University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m.

The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
