IRVINGTON, NJ — An alleged drug dealer was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 8, by Essex County sheriff’s detectives and nearly $20,000 in “crack” cocaine was recovered.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that plainclothes officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics staged a surveillance operation on Thursday, Nov. 8, near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Fuller Place in Irvington, as part of ongoing investigations into drug trafficking in the area.
“Here, we observed Quentin Mixson, 40 of Newark, exiting an apartment complex and carrying a black shopping bag,” Fontoura said. “Mixson was known to us from previous investigations and, when we announced our presence, he threw the shopping bag to the ground and raised his hands in surrender.”
The bag contained 372 grams of cocaine and Mixson was in possession of $1,242 in suspected drug proceeds.
Mixson was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of Burch Charter School.
Mixson was lodged at the county jail, where he awaits a bail hearing.
