NEWARK, NJ — Authorities have charged an 18-year-old male and a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with the fatal shooting of Shuri Henry on Thanksgiving night, Thursday, Nov. 23. Henry was shot during an apparent robbery on South 20th Street. The assailants then fled in the victim’s 2015 Kia Sorento. Earlier on Friday, Nov. 24, patrol officers from the Newark Police Department spotted the victim’s car, which was occupied by three males. As the officers attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to stop and the three occupants, two adults and a juvenile, were apprehended after a brief pursuit.
As a result of an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, authorities have charged Supreme A. Allah Jr., 18, of Newark, with murder, felony murder, robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy to commit murder. A 14-year-old juvenile has been charged with the same offenses. Antonio L. Torres, 20, of Newark, has been charged with eluding the police. Allah and Torres are being lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility, pending an appearance in Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court. The juvenile, whose name is being withheld due to his age, is being lodged in the Essex County Youth Detention Facility.
The investigation into this incident is continuing and additional arrests are possible, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
