East Orange man arrested immediately after committing a theft

EAST ORANGE, NJ — An 18-year-old East Orange man was arrested immediately after committing a theft on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

At approximately 4 p.m., a Newark police officer was flagged down by a woman who was chasing a man. She quickly explained that she was talking on her cell phone while walking on McWhorter Street, when the suspect she was chasing grabbed her telephone and ran.

The officer gave chase, with the suspect and quickly apprehended without further incident.  The suspect is identified as 18-year-old Kkiawu Mohamed, who is charged with theft and resisting arrest.

A replica handgun was also found, although Mohamed hasn’t been charged for possession, at this juncture of this ongoing investigation.
