NEWARK, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and New Jersey Institute of Technology Police Chief Joseph Marswillo announced Nov. 28 that Brianna Williams, 21, of East Orange, was arrested for the fatal hit and run that resulted in the death of NJIT student Naomi R. Segura, 25, of Byram Township.
On Tuesday, Nov. 13, at approximately 9:20 p.m., the victim, a pedestrian, was struck by a red Jeep Cherokee in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Summit Street in Newark. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to University Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The car that struck her did not stop. The driver of a second car did stop and called for help.
After an extensive investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Bureau, Williams was charged.
