Essex County Prosecutor’s Office investigates police-involved non-fatal shooting

IRVINGTON, NJ — The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating an incident in which an off-duty Essex County corrections officer discharged his weapon in the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue in Irvington at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

During this incident, one individual was struck, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. The individual is presently being treated at a local area hospital and is in stable condition.

As per attorney general guidelines, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standard Bureau must respond and investigate when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon on or off-duty.

The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time, no other details are available.
