Montclair son charged with murdering father

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti announced that on the evening of July 10 the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office arrested and charged a son with the fatal stabbing of his father, Jose Correa, 51, of Woodland Park.

The son, Josiah Correa, 24, of Montclair, was arrested at the apartment he shared with his mother in the 300 block of Orange Road in Montclair. The preliminary investigation indicates the father suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:16 p.m. on July 9.

The son has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The investigation, which is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Montclair Police Department, is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-847-7432.

The charges against the son are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
