Police arrest Maplewood woman wanted for carjacking

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reported on Aug. 6 that Newark police had arrested Oziona Okoro, 18, of Maplewood, who was wanted in connection to a carjacking that occurred on Dawson and Thomas streets in Newark on Friday, July 18.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., at the corner of Dawson and Thomas streets, the victim was approached by a black male, armed with a knife, and a black female. The male demanded the victim’s car. Both suspects entered the victim’s car and drove away. The victim’s tablet and other personal property were also taken.

Okoro, upon becoming aware that she was being sought in connection to the carjacking, turned herself in to police. She has been charged with carjacking, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and conspiracy.
