Police arrest Newark juvenile for possession of a loaded handgun

NEWARK, NJ — A juvenile from Newark was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 13, for possession of a loaded handgun.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau were canvassing the area of Parker Street near Park Avenue, when they observed a male adjusting a handgun in the waistband of his pants.

As S.E.B. detectives approached, the suspect fled on foot. Detectives observed him toss the handgun to the ground while running away. The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended and the loaded .45-caliber handgun he had tossed was located and seized by detectives.

The juvenile is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.
