NEWARK, NJ — Earl T. Williams, 32, of Newark, was arrested for weapon possession and drug distribution on Monday, Nov. 7.
At approximately 10:24 p.m., detectives patrolling the area of Morris and Westfield avenues observed Williams removing glassine envelopes from a fanny pack worn around his waist and accepting cash from individuals who approached him.
Detectives from the 1st Precinct approached and the suspect attempted to flee. Williams was apprehended, but struggled with detectives until he was arrested and handcuffed.
Williams was found in possession of a loaded .45-caliber handgun, 170 glassine envelopes of suspected heroin and 30 vials of suspected cocaine. He is charged with possession of a weapon while distributing a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 500 feet of Newark Public Library, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
