NEWARK, NJ — Sharif Mitchell, 39, of Newark, was arrested on Friday, Nov. 11, for a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Nov. 6.
At approximately 1 a.m., a 45-year-old male victim was closing a business located at 7th and Roseville avenues, when two males approached and attempted to snatch the keys to the establishment from his hand. The suspects brandished a handgun and shot the victim, when he refused to turn over the keys.
The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Following an intense investigation, detectives determined that Mitchell is a suspect in this shooting. Judge Marvin Adames issued a $200,000 warrant for Mitchell’s arrest.
Members of the Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Team located Mitchell in the 200-block of Lehigh Avenue on Friday, Nov. 11, and arrested him without incident.
Mitchell is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
