NEWARK, NJ — Members of the Special Enforcement Bureau arrested Roberto Laslano, 31, for weapon possession, along with Patricia Ortiz, 40, and Denzell Arrington, 27, who were operating an illegal alcohol establishment on Sunday, Nov. 19.
Acting on information brought to the attention of 3rd Precinct Commander Captain Perez during a recent community meeting, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to a warehouse located at 690 Ferry St. and observed several individuals drinking alcoholic beverages. Detectives also observed a man, Roberto Laslano, with gun. On becoming aware of police presence, Laslano attempted to flee, but was immediately apprehended. He was found in possession of a loaded and defaced .40 caliber handgun.
Laslano is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of prohibited ammunition – hollow point bullet, possession of a prohibited weapon – defaced, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
Ortiz is charged with maintaining an unlicensed liquor establishment and unlawful possession of alcohol. Arrington is charged with aiding and abetting an unlicensed liquor establishment.
All three suspects are from Jersey City. Police recovered 421 bottles of beer, various bottles of liquor and $264.
“I thank our residents for providing us with information about criminal activities occurring in their neighborhoods,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. “This information allows us to more effectively address activities that denigrate the quality of life in our communities.”
