NEWARK, NJ — The Police Special Enforcement Bureau arrested Sherome Hubbard, 20, of Newark, and Malcolm Jones-Carter, 21, of East Orange, for possession of a loaded .45-caliber handgun on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., detectives patrolling the 200-block of Fairmount Avenue observed a man crouching and hiding behind a brick wall on a porch of a residence. A second man was with him, but remained standing.
When S.E.B. detectives approached, they heard the sound of metal hitting against the porch and observed the handgun, in plain view, on the opposite side of the wall.
S.E.B. arrested both men without incident at the residence, where neither of the men live nor had been given access. Hubbard is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and defiant trespassing. Jones-Carter is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, defiant trespassing and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
